And the German winner is…Think Blue. Factory.

Every year, within the framework of the “Altran Innovation Award“, whose official partner is the business magazine WirtschaftsWoche, the Altran Foundation in Germany is pioneering ideas and technologies combining economic success with quantum leaps in ecological efficiency. The jury of this year’s Altran Germany’s Innovation Award rewarded the Wolfsburg-based Volkswagen AG. The company wins a 6-month support provided by Altran’s innovations Consultants for its innovations project.

And the UK winner is…TrackSafe

The theme for Altran UK’s Foundation Award 2012 was Embedded and Critical Systems. The jury cogitated, deliberated and one entry stood out in fulfilling one of the main missions of the Foundation Award –“promote technological innovation for human benefit” –: Bombardier Transportation for their TrackSafe project.

And the Italian winner is… Fabiola Munarin

"Gel with stem cells for regenerative medicine" is the project that led to the victory Fabiola Munarin, young and determined Researcher at the Politecnico di Milano, who participated in the 2012 Award of the Altran Foundation for Innovation in Italy on the theme “Bioengineering and Stem cells: ideas for life”. The award ceremony was held on 26 November in the prestigious Villa Mondragone (Monte Porzio Catone, Rome), of the University of Rome Tor Vergata.

2006 - A step forward in the research was done by the Japanese Shinya Yamanaka of Kyoto University with induced pluripotent stem cells, the iPSCs (Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells): a real milestone, which allowed to go beyond the ethical debate around the use of embryos for research. 2012 - Shinya Yamanaka is awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine on October 8th.

On 28th September at midnight, the application period for the 2012 Foundation Award in France ended with a great success: 23 projects were proposed. This great number of applications proves again that the chronic diseases theme is still a major challenge, and that technological innovation can be developed for the common good to overcome it.
