Belgium: for a Smarter Mobility

In Belgium, the Altran Foundation for Innovation chooses “Technological Innovation for a Smarter Mobility” as its theme.

Together with other major players in the transportation and energy industries (Audi, D’Ieteren, Electrabel, Touring, Mia), Altran is an active member of BECI’s  Mobility Hub (Brussels Enterprise Commerce and Industry). Through this membership, we contribute to making responsible proposals on mobility issues in Brussels and its district.

Today, mobility and its logistics are essential to the development of the economy. But traffic jams substantially decrease our quality of living and are the root cause of 30 up to 100% of the CO2 in our atmosphere. Compared to the year 2000, in 2015 we will be spending a third more time on the road, driving 20% slower and producing 13% more CO2.

How will our mobility habits change in the future? What are the challenges in front of us?

To address the concerns related to our frequent transits, we must develop means of collective transport and also find ways of rationalising the flow of goods.

Because people are more and more traveling, we have to activate travellers’ sense of responsibility in their choice of transportation both at the individual and at the collective level.

This year’s Belgian Altran Foundation Award will assign the prize to a project that takes into account one of the 3 following issues related to “Technological Innovation for a Smarter Mobility”:

  • Reducing the impacts of mobility: environment, noise, traffic, health, security, reliability...
  • Improving collective transportation: inter modality, public transportation, shared transportation, urban and inter-urban mobility...
  • Increasing productivity through a smarter mobility: logistics, connectivity, telecommunication, multimedia, infrastructure, high tech systems...
